2008 Fantasy Football Tight End Tier Listing
TIER ONE : Antonio Gates, Kellen Winslow Jr, Jason Witten
As the Tight End becomes more apart of the offense, we are seeing how important it is to draft one early. These three have the potential to put up numbers close to your WR2. Gates as many know, is still recovering from his foot injury, but his name will carry weight at your Fantasy Football draft.
Winslow and Witten have become great targets, especially in the red zone. These BIG THREE will start coming off the board as early as the late third round.
TIER TWO : Tony Gonzalez, Vernon Davis, Chris Cooley, Todd Heap, Dallas Clark, Owen Daniels, Jeremy Shockey
The difference between the second and third tier, to me, could be the difference between a win and a lose. This tier is solid, and you can expect them to start coming off the board around round five, and they should last until the seventh or eighth. Again, it's my opinion that you make sure to grab one of these Tight Ends because after this tier you'll be reaching and hoping for points out of your Tight End.
TIER THREE : Tony Scheffler, Zach Miller, Donald Lee, Heath Miller, Randy McMichael, Ben Watson, L.J. Smith
Tier three Tight Ends will start to come off the board around the ninth round. Guys that can make a case to move up a tier are Zach Miller and Heath Miller. Zach Miller is a Tight End that can help out the field for the Raiders and has great hands. Heath Miller, as we saw last year, is a Red Zone monster. The arrival of Lamas Sweed may take some TD's away, that's why he's a tier three Tight End. The other Tight Ends in the tier, have the potential for 3-5 TD's.
TIER FOUR : Greg Olsen, Alge Crumpler, Leonard Pope, Mercedes Lewis, Alex Smith, Kevin Boss
Tier four is a group of guys that may have value late in your draft. Alge Crumpler gets another mobile Quarterback with his move to the Tennessee Titans which could revitalize his career. Greg Olsen and Leonard Pope to me are the best in this tier.
We all know what Kevin Boss has done; force the New York Giants to trade four time Pro-Bowl Jeremy Shockey. The big questions is, can he fill his shows?
TIER FIVE : Desmond Clark, Jeff King, Ben Utecht, Bo Scaife, Eric Johnson, Robert Royal, Visanthe Shiancoe
Tight Ends you should know about just in case you get desperate at the end of your draft.
