2008 Fantasy Football Kicker Tier Listing
Just as a reminder, there is no need to take a kicker before the last three rounds. Stock up on skilled position players, and than take care of your kicker. Remember, you'll be able to pull a kicker off the waiver wire as well. There is always a points leader hanging around.
TIER ONE : Phil Dawson, Nick Folk, Nate Kaeding, Shayne Graham
Phil Dawson and Nick Folk are apart of high powered offense, which will lead to plenty of scoring opportunities for each. Look for each to lead their respected conference come seasons end. Nate Kaeding and Shayne Graham each have booming legs and will score plenty of points for your Fantasy Football team.
TIER TWO : Josh Scobee, Josh Brown, Adam Vinatieri, Stephen Gostkowski, Neil Rackers
Some are probably thinking why Stephen Gostowski is not in the first tier? Well, first off, I don't see the New England Patriots scoring as many runs, and secondly from long distant Gostkowski is only 50% (3-6) from 40 yards and out. Adam Vinatieri is a dome kicker, but hasn't been the same since leaving New England. The two Joshes' are consistent, and are deep threats as well. Neil Rackers could jump up to tier one, depending on how the Cardinals moves the ball. The Cardinals have a chance to score plenty.
TIER THREE : Matt Bryant, Kris Brown, Rob Bironas, Mason Crosby, Brandon Coutu, Joe Nedney, Jeff Reed, Ryan Longwell, Robbie Gould, Lawrence Tynes
This tier has plenty of kickers that won't kill your team. If the first nine kickers are off the board, these kickers will score similar numbers. Ryan Longwell is in a dome, while Mason Crosby, Robbie Gould and Jeff Reed all kick in bad weather at the end of the season. Lawrence Tynes is coming off a Super Bowl win, while Matt Bryant Kris Brown, and Joe Nedney are safe enough picks that you can wait to the second to last round to pick them up.
TIER FOUR : Jason Elam, Taylor Mehlhaff, Sebastian Janikowski, John Kasey, Rian Lindell, Matt Prater, Mike Nugent, Matt Stover, Jay Feely
The one kicker that could be a sleeper this year is Taylor Mehlaff. If the New Orleans Saints can put up points that we all expect they will, Mehlaff could have a tier two type season. Elam moves on to the loney Falcons, but now kicks in doors. The other kickers listed are guys you can get in the last round.
TIER FIVE : Shaun Suisham, Jason Hanson, Connor Barth
These are just kickers you should know about just in case you get desperate at the end of your draft.
