Sometimes we must read between the lines to understand what a manager is really thinking!

Wood's first outing in his battle for the closer's role didn't go particularly well. Wood said he thought he threw the ball well, but he gave up three runs on four hits in one inning.
"For the first time [out], I thought my location was all right," he said. "I threw good fastballs, a few good sliders and my cutter was good. Obviously, the results aren't what you're looking for, but I'm pleased with it."
Piniella said Wood "just hung a breaking ball" on a three-run home run by Torii Hunter.
"The slider is the last pitch that comes in spring training with arm strength, so I'm not concerned about it," Piniella said.

Bob Howry, another closer candidate along with Carlos Marmol, allowed one run on two hits in one inning.
"He usually struggles a little bit early in the spring," Piniella said.
