Dear LISA
I am very lucky in the fact that my wife of almost 3 years have been more than supportive of my addiction and love of fantasy baseball. She doesn’t say much in terms of complaints about the time I spend reading websites, watching games, attending games, etc. However, it doesn’t mean that I don’t feel guilty about it either. Here is a typical evening in my home as we have a 5 month old daughter. From the time we both get home from work (5pmish) until our daughter goes to bed (b/t 7:15-8pm) it is all about her. Then after she is put to bed, my wife goes to our bedroom to do schoolwork (she is a kindergarten teacher), while I go to the living room log into my laptop turn on my MLB package and spend the next couple of hours watching games and surfing the net looking up baseball news.
When I go up to bed, she is either still working on things and I am ready for bed. Unfortunately this has become such a routine (even before baseball season) that it is like a schedule. So……..tell me some ways to bring some romance back into our lives.
Thanks! Bryan
DEAR BRYAN
Sounds like a typical day in modern life. I think we all have that routine. Especially during the winter when the sunshine is minimal and the weather just plain sucks.
I've often suggested to my hubby that one or two nights a week, we mix it up.
We have a nine year old, so it is different than an infant. I like to do after dinner game nights for example.
Our son loves it and it is a time that we can all sit and look at each other. So, we break out the yahtzee or some other game.
Another ritual in our house in American Idol. We are addicted to that show. on those nights we all watch together.
The important thing is to put one or two nights aside to escape from life. It should be a little easier since your baby goes to sleep early.
Maybe one night put the baby to bed and you and your honey jump in the tub together and grab some wine and just relax.
I remember sitting in the tub with Lenny once sharing a half gallon of ice cream. Of course, that was the pre child days, but you get the point.
Or, you could play a game together that you both enjoy. (although the tub sure sounds like more fun.)
