Paul Greco   | 67.99.43.xxx | 2008-06-11 09:02:50
Bobbo:

I like Colon

I don't like Vazquez

I'm in the middle on Hamels, which means it's to risky for me to go with.

your thoughts on Blackburn and Rasner?
Paul Greco   | 67.99.43.xxx | 2008-06-11 10:48:31
Don't like Blackburn - Last 3 games have been awful.

I like Rasner : 4-1 K/BB in Last 3 games

Wolf vs LAD today?

what are do you think about this matchup?
Paul Greco   | 67.99.43.xxx | 2008-06-11 13:50:51
Dylan,

Right now I have Billingsley as a Pitch today against the Padres. But, Wolf is also a decent start. He's won his last two has had straight quality starts.

The Dodgers are a light hitting team. I see this game being 4-3 or 3-2...But in Dodgers favor.

Paul,

I've got Jurrjens and Dempster on my team. I'm not putting Jair in, but I'm considering putting Dempster in. Admittedly, if the wind is blowing out, Wrigley may help the Braves, but aren't they still 3-98 on the road this season?

I'm curious as to your reasoning on ditching Dempster.

Also, Manny Parra has had a couple decent starts. Thoughts on his at Houston?

Scott.
Paul Greco   | 67.99.43.xxx | 2008-06-11 14:37:42
Scott:

Chicago's Ryan Dempster has been perfect at Wrigley Field so far this season, going 7-0 with a 3.10 ERA. Dempster is coming off his two shortest outings of the season in back-to-back starts, which could be a bit of a concern considering he is still making his transition from the bullpen a year ago. He has not pitched a full six innings in either of his last two outings and is a dismal 1-10 lifetime vs. Atlanta with a 5.65 ERA.

So to me I'm throwing up the read flag.

As far as Parra he faced Houston on 5/3 in Houston and had a crappy outing there. 9 Hits 5 ER & 4 BB's. Also in his last 7 starts he hasn't made it out of the 5th inning, that concerns me too. I'd stay away from him.

Seriously, that's great info. I'm over on innings, and trying to pull my WHiP out of the gutter.

Thanks, Paul.

Scott,

Hopefully it works out pal.

I really appreciate all of your great info.

I need a good spot start tomorrow, so who do you think will give me the best performance out of these pitchers and why?

Buehrle @ DET
Laffy vs MIN
Moehler vs MIL
Pineiro @ CIN
Reynolds vs SF
Gorzelanny vs WAS
Rogers vs CWS
Paul Greco   | 67.99.43.xxx | 2008-06-11 15:19:46
Dylan;

Laffey was the AL Rookie of the Month in May, and has been pitching really well. He'll face Livan Hernandez who's giving up an average of 10 Hits and 5+ runs a game in his last 4 outings.

FELIX HERNANDEZ WINS

JURRJENS Not pitching tonight...injuried

This now puts me on the fence with Dempster...I'd look to put him in now...BTW wins blowing out to left 12 MPH right now.
Scott - jurrjens/dempster   | 69.204.134.xxx | 2008-06-11 15:25:22
Sorry to hear about Jair, even though I was benching him. Maybe the extra time off will let him get his groove back.

As for Dempster... man, I can't take the chance. He'll strike people out, and get the win, but being in last place in WHiP is killing me.

What makes this worse is I have Mark Tex. and Yunel Esc. on my team. I've got to throw them in, and pray for hits.

Paul Greco   | 67.99.43.xxx | 2008-06-11 15:35:13
Ya pal I hear ya...that's a tough chance to take.

Cubs are 5-1 in his last six games. In his last home start he went 5 innings giving up 3 runs while striking out 7...

Good Luck tonight. I'm going to stick with the history on this one. But hope you really win...
Scott   | 69.204.134.xxx | 2008-06-11 15:37:46
I can't take the chance. Dempster's riding the pine tonight for my team. When you're in trouble with WHIP and ERA, you don't have much of a choice.
dylan - pitching   | 67.171.157.xxx | 2008-06-11 17:24:21
Paul, I have a pitching strategy question for you...

I currently have kershaw, liriano, and an open roster spot that i use for spot starts whenever I feel the matchup is good enough.

My question for you is, do you think i should hold my roster as it is or drop liriano and kershaw and use that extra roster spot to pick up 3 solid relief pitchers to lower my ERA and WHIP.

I just feel like liriano might be a ways away from coming back, and i feel like kershaw is going to be hurting my WHIP the entire season, as will my pitch and ditch options.

This is a very competitive money league, where I am middle of the pack in ERA, WHIP, Wins, and K's...I have suffered abit in ERA and WHIP due to my pitch and ditch picks.

I think that i will still stay compeitive in wins and k's even if i pick up relief pitchers to lower my ERA and WHIP...The owners below me in wins and strikeouts aren't as active as the owners above me.

The rest of my pitching staff is Felix Hernandez, Javier Vazq...
Scott - Kershaw   | 69.204.134.xxx | 2008-06-11 17:31:43
For what it's worth, Dylan, I'm in a similar situation. I grabbed Clayton, but only played him once. I'm holding him for the time being, but I'll be dropping him soon. He's not ready for the big-times yet.

I'm also suffering in whip and era, and am considering some trades, to get a better starter. I have Harang, Shields and Dice-K as my main three, and they're killing me this year.

I'd recommedn Jose Aredondo and Brandon Morrow, if they're available. Both are solid middle-relief.
Paul Greco   | 70.115.221.xxx | 2008-06-11 17:52:33
I like Kershaw. I think the more he pitches the better he'll be.

Liriano on the other hand...If it's not a keeper league there is no reason for him to be on your team right now. You'll hear from Lenny or I if he's getting the call in time to make the pickup.

But I would go with HIGH K/Low WHIP relievers out there.

Morrow is a great option especially with Putz leaving today in the 9th because of arm issues.

Dempster:

Complete game. 9 innings. 11 k's. 2.00 ERA, and sub-1.00 WHIP. AND HE GOT THE WIN.

He looked so good on my bench, too.

I feel ya pal. Sorry!!!

Demps was bringing it tonight
Scott   | 69.204.134.xxx | 2008-06-12 00:58:40
Don't sweat it. Shit happens, and it's only June!
dylan   | 67.171.157.xxx | 2008-06-11 19:17:16
ya morrow has been taken for a week or so now...the top relief pitchers in my league are:

Doug Brocail, HOU
Chad Qualls, ARI
Santiago Casilla, OAK
Jeremy Accardo, TOR
Matt Thornton, CWS
Jesse Carlson, TOR
Damaso Marte, PIT
Joaquin Benoit, TEX
David Weathers, CIN
Aaron Heilman, NYM
Rafael Perez, CLE
Bob Howry, CHC
Al Reyes, TB
Juan Cruz, ARI
Justin Speier, LAA

Could you just give me your top 3 or so out of this group and why you think so. Thanks again for the help...
Scott McGovern   | 69.204.134.xxx | 2008-06-11 19:32:11
Paul knows better than I, so I'd defer to his judgement, but I'll add my two cents, as I've been researching available middle-relief for the last week.

Rafael Perez and Justin Speier have not been putting up #'s compared to previous years. Neither is in a 8th-inning setup role, and could get thrown in if the team is losing badly.

Santiago Casilla is solid, but won't be pitching for another week or so. I grabbed him, to be honest, and I'll give him a shot. His #'s before he went down were great.

Brocail and Qualls are solid, I think. Marte, too, but he pitchs for the Bucs, and you wonder if he won't get put in the same position as Perez or Speier might.

Lenny told me to look for middle-relief with a eye toward K/9. You're looking for 1 K/9 or better.

Like I said, though, Paul knows better than I.
Paul Greco   | 70.115.221.xxx | 2008-06-11 19:58:11
Dylan,

Juan Cruz
Al Reyes
Justin Speier

That's the way I'd go

  • Wayne Provo : Tony's OK by me...
  • Lenny : I really do not agree and many others share my love for Tonys work as he has 3 of the top 4 rated Sports shows on Blog talk radio
  • gast_7832 : Gast, I have to agree. Lenny, I can appreciate you wanting to make the site better and all, but this latest attempt of adding Tony to the podcasts is an utter failure. I have nothing against the guy Lenny, but he flat takes away from your show. You have votes on all sorts of things...put a poll up about limiting Tony's comments to the written word.
  • gast_2761 : So you're sayin' that you started the podcast right on time today Tony? Tell Lenny we miss him...terribly.
  • gast_7298 : We have asked for thise who use our service ,to send in a contribution to help cover our costs...we assume you have since you are a user...
  • gast_497 : Not a 'concern', more so a likely fact. Anybody who knows anything about advertising realizes where you make a buck, and it's not from charging a few bucks to get the magic key to access the same info they've been getting free for months. You've stuffed this 'free' concept down our throats for months...plz honor it.
