Yesterday I broke down my bottom third Fantasy Football quarterbacks for the upcoming season. Today I’ll take a look at those QB’s that have the potential in be in the Top 10 but just missed out. Before I do that, lets recap the QB’s I ranked 21-30 and my predications:

21) Matt Leinart : 3122 YDS – 23 TD's – 16 INT
22) Alex Smith : 3079 YDS – 22 TD's – 12 INT
23) Tarvaris Jackson : 3079 YDS – 19 TD's – 15 INT – 6 RTD's
24) JaMarcus Russell : 3065 YDS – 18 TD's – 17 INT
25) Jeff Garcia : 2803 YDS – 16 TD's – 8 INT
26) Trent Edwards : 2990YDS – 17 TD's – 17 INT
27) Kellen Clemens : 2578 YDS – 19 TD's – 15 INT
28) Rex Grossman : 2312 YDS – 15 TD's – 17 INT
29) Brodie Croyle : 1679 YDS – 14 TD's – 15 INT
30) Kurt Warner : 1155 YDS – 8 TD's – 4 INT

20) Jason Campbell – Washington Redskins : In 2007 we started to see some growth in Jason Campbell as a quarterback. In 2008, under a new head coach and a new offense (west coast), Campbell is the “flip the coin” quarterback. Worst case scenario, Campbell takes a step back this year as he tries to learn his seventh offense in nine years. To go along with a new offense the Redskins will have three rookies at wide receiver that Campbell has to some how integrate into the offense. Now, if Campbell can learn this offense quickly, it’ll play to his strength of getting rid of the ball quickly and letting his wide receivers do the work. Campbell has the potential to be a Top 15 Fantasy Football quarterback, but the west coast offense is a difficult offense to learn in a short period of time. Not a bad late round pick if you’re looking for a second half quarterback : My Projections : 3052 YDS – 17 TD’s – 13 INT

19) Jon Kitna – Detroit Lions : Bye-Bye Mike Martz and the two years of 4,000+ yard seasons. Oh ya, lets not forget to say good-bye to the punishment over those two years Kitna had to suffer through in the Martz timing offense. In 2008 the Lions want to run a “balanced” type offense. The million dollar question is, “How can you have a balanced offense if you have no running game?” Here’s the good news for Kitna owners and Lions fans, when Kitna looks to his left and right he’ll see two of best young wide receivers in the game, Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson. If the 36-year old quarterback gets any time from his offensive line he can pick defenses apart and distribute the football around to his weapons. Kitna to me, when playing at home and against the right defense, is a quarterback that can put up points for your Fantasy Football team. Just don’t count on him week in and week out. My Projections : 3316 YDS – 20 TD’s – 15 INT

18) Aaron Rogers – Green Bay Packers : Welcome the new kid on the block, it’s only fitting since New Kids on the Block is back on tour that I make the reference…my girlfriend would be so proud of me for mentioning them. I’ve gone back and forth on where to place Rodgers in my rankings over the last two weeks. I’ve had him as low as 11 and as high as 20. The potential to be a star quarterback in the NFL is there for Rodgers. He has a great running back in Ryan Grant, two wide receivers that can fly in Donald Driver and Greg Jennings, and an offensive line that controls the line of scrimmage. Can Rogers get out from the shadow of the great Brett Favre? A question I’m sure he’ll get asked before and after each game this year. To me, there is no way I rely on Rogers as my #1 quarterback early in the season. Let’s see how he handles the pressure and then make the mid-season adjustment to his play. Remember, the great thing about RotoHog Fantasy Football is that you’re never stuck with a player you drafted. You can always sell you quarterback to pick up a different on each and every week. My Projections : 3390 YDS – 21 TD’s – 16 INT

17) Jake Delhomme – Carolina Panthers : The Panthers this year have surrounded Jake Delhomme with weapons. No longer will it be the “Steve Smith Show” at wide receiver. The additions of DJ Hackett and a home coming for Muhsin Muhammad should allow Delhomme to find many passing lanes, and relieve some pressure off of Smith. Like all the quarterbacks mentioned so far, the question on many Fantasy Owners minds is, ”Will Delhomme’s surgically repaired shoulder hold up for the entire season?” Delhomme’s shoulder through Organized Team Activities (OTA) has looked fine so far, but we’ll see once he gets hit whether or not it can hold up. Delhomme has the potential for 25+ TD’s this year, but many owners will shy away from him on draft day because of his shoulder concerns. That could be good news for you. Look for Delhomme to be drafted anywhere between the 8th and 11th round in your Fantasy Draft. My Projections : 3424 YDS – 25 TD’s – 16 INT

16) Vince Young – Tennessee Titans : Vince Young! The name screams potential. His 2007 Fantasy Football numbers don’t jump out at you, but let’s look a little deeper. Young’s completion rate and yards per attempt increased from the ’06 season; great news from a quarterback stand point. Now let’s look at the bad. His TD’s dropped from 12 to nine, his INT’s increased from 13 to 17, and his rushing touchdowns were down from seven to three. So where does that leave us? I like the idea that he’s maturing as a quarterback. I also like that Mike Heimerdinger is taking over the play calling for the Titans. If you don’t know that name, he’s the guy that made Steve McNair one of the best Fantasy Quarterbacks during the late 90’s, early 2000’s. Young has the skill sets. Whether the Titans utilize it correctly will be the question? My Projections : 3035 YDS – 19 TD’s – 15 INT – 5 RTD’s

15) Matt Schaub – Houston Texans : I was discussing the potential of Matt Schaub to a colleague of mine this past week, and he told me that Schaub has the potential to be a Top 10 quarterback this year if he can stay on the field. My thought, I don’t see him in the Top 10, just yet. Schaub showed great pose in the pocket in ’07, but honestly, he got hammered at times because he held the ball to long. With two legit weapons in Owen Daniels (TE) and Andre Johnson (WR), Schaub could reach 3,500 yards. The Texans offense is on the field a lot, and you know Schaub is going to have to air it out in order to keep the Texans in the game. I have him currently at 15, but over the next couple of weeks as mini-camps start, he could end up closer to the Top 10. My Projections : 3432 YDS – 22 TD’s – 14 INT – 2 RTD’s

14) Donovan McNabb – Philadelphia Eagles : Although I’m not a big fan of Donovan McNabb, his numbers speak for themselves. Here’s the problem, McNabb is always hurt. Duh right? Well, when it comes to Fantasy Football, you want your quarterback to be there for you instead of you having to hold your lucky wishbone each week praying that he doesn’t get hurt on the next play. The other problem I have with McNabb is that his wide receiver corp has to be one of the worst in the NFL. Now, I’m not counting Brian Westbrook here, just guys like Kevin Curtis, Reggie Brown, Greg Lewis, and rookie DeSean Jackson. Westbrook and the screen pass, which the Eagles use primarily as a running play, inflate McNabb’s passing cnumbers. Here’s a little tidbit too, McNabb is already hurt prior to the season. I had McNabb at 11 just a few days ago, but now, he could end up closer to 20 before the season starts. My Projections : 2915 YDS – 19 TD’s – 9 INT – 2 RTD’s

13) Marc Bulger – St. Louis Rams : I see a turn around season for Bulger while many “Experts” don’t for some reason. Offensive tackle, Orlando Pace should be healthy for the ’08 season which makes Bulger’s backside happy. Also, the running game of Steven Jackson will return. No longer will we see seasons of 4,000+ yards from Bulger, but I think 3500+ is respectable. The loss of Isaac Bruce will hurt a little, but let’s be honest here, he was on the downside of his career and really wasn’t making plays for the Rams offense. Torry Holt is still the man, and we all know what he can do. If the Rams can incorporate Randy McMichael a little more into the offense it should open the field more, and allow Bulger to check down to Jackson. I like Bulger this year, I see a big comeback for him, and he’s my Comeback Player of the Year in ’08 for quarterbacks. My Projections : 3569 YDS – 23 TD’s – 13 INT

12) Jay Cutler – Denver Broncos : This was a kid I was very high on last year, and he didn’t disappoint me or his Fantasy Owners. Quarterbacks going into their second season tend to improve on their rookie season which is good news for Cutler owners. The injury to Brandon Marshall will hurt during the offseason, for timing purposes, but I still believe Cutler will be amongst the best quarterbacks in the league. Don’t be surprised if at the end of the season this strong-armed quarterback breaks into the Top 10. He has the potential to be that damn good. My Projections : 3532 YDS – 25 TD’s – 12 INT

11) Phillip Rivers – San Diego Chargers : This is another quarterback that doesn’t get the Fantasy Owners respect for some reason. After looking over some other “Experts” rankings, Rivers was as high as 20…20, are you kidding me? Here’s a guy who’s played in 32 consecutive regular season games, arguably has the best running back and tight end in the game as weapons, but still gets no love. Well Phillip Rivers, I love you man. You almost made it into my Top 10, and who knows, in a few weeks, you just might. I love what Rivers brings to the table, and the fact that he has AWESOME weapons around him, makes him that much more appealing to me. Rivers is a great pick in all formats of Fantasy Football. My Projections : 3515 YDS – 24 TD’s – 9 INT

  • Lenny : I really do not agree and many others share my love for Tonys work as he has 3 of the top 4 rated Sports shows on Blog talk radio
  • gast_7832 : Gast, I have to agree. Lenny, I can appreciate you wanting to make the site better and all, but this latest attempt of adding Tony to the podcasts is an utter failure. I have nothing against the guy Lenny, but he flat takes away from your show. You have votes on all sorts of things...put a poll up about limiting Tony's comments to the written word.
  • gast_2761 : So you're sayin' that you started the podcast right on time today Tony? Tell Lenny we miss him...terribly.
  • gast_7298 : We have asked for thise who use our service ,to send in a contribution to help cover our costs...we assume you have since you are a user...
  • gast_497 : Not a 'concern', more so a likely fact. Anybody who knows anything about advertising realizes where you make a buck, and it's not from charging a few bucks to get the magic key to access the same info they've been getting free for months. You've stuffed this 'free' concept down our throats for months...plz honor it.
  • Paul Greco : I appreciate your concern gast_497. If you'd like to contact Lenny and I you can e-mail us at advice@melnickandgrecofantasysports.com
  • gast_497 : Let me take a stab in the dark here. Based on your 'questionnaire', I can already see where this site is going, just like every other one out there. You'll give some basic info for free, but in order to get the 'special info', well that will cost ya....let's call it a 'premium' package. If I may, that would be the biggest mistake you could make, b/c you would lose visitors in a big way. The 'free' aspect is your hook, and if you do away with it, you'll lose plenty, including myse
  • Bobby P : Tony you add a different style to the site, I for one enjoy it. Keep it up and hope you guys kill football, because every week matters! :)
  • gast_5612 : Tony does a great job..ask his wife
  • Tony C : No problem, thanks for making the attempts to listen to podcast. It is great you are taking the time to make your feelings known. Hopefully someday I can improve to your satisfaction. In the meantime if you have any tips send them to me at tonycincotta@yahoo.com. I love a good constructive critique.
